Many studies have found the benefits of using quercetin to treat cancer. It does this by reduce inflammation, oxidation, regulating expresssion of p53, a commonly mutated gene in breast cancer, and reduces growth of cancer cells. It also has anti tumor proprerties which alter the metabolism of carcinogens by altering enzymes that convert these dangerous compounds into non-toxic ones. A recent study has found quercetin to have properties that means it can work in breast cancers that are resistant to treatment drugs, such as lapatinib (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22086611).

Quercetin is found in many foods including, onions, apples and green tea.image: www.freeimages.co.uk
